Chicago Tribune logoOften, the experience of attending a parent-teacher conference can feel rushed, with parents left wondering what they can do to support their children’s learning at home.

In search of advice on how to maximize the time parents have with their children’s teachers, Chicago Tribune reporter John Keilman spoke with Harvard Family Research Project’s Heather B. Weiss as well as former teachers. Weiss highlighted the importance of preparing for the conferences in advance. When parents have specific questions and know what information they would like to take away from the meeting, parent-teacher conferences become a more productive experience.

The article provides additional tips for getting the most out of parent-teacher conferences, including focusing in on how children are doing in the classroom academically, socially, and emotionally.
